Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Ask us via our contact page! 🙂

Where/how do I pay and access the course materials?

The most straightforward way is to click on the course that interests you, and you will be directed to our Pathwright site, where you or your student will complete the coursework.  Once in Pathwright, you can make a secure payment.

If you live in a state with an account for educational spending, you may be able to make payment through your state’s spending page. Look up “Lines on Clay Academic Journeys”, and you can pay directly out of the student’s account balance.  After payment is made, we will get you into the course of your choosing via a sign-in code.

How does grading work?

The homeschool course (for parents) is not graded.

For the other courses, there are various assignments where students receive a grade based on their ongoing progress.  Many of the questions and assignments are quite easy, while others require more thought and effort such as video-guided mini-projects in Google Sheets and Desmos for our Statistics courses.

Grades can be viewed at all times in the student’s dashboard.

Don’t need a grade? Answering questions and turning in assignments is totally up to you!

Do I get a completion certificate?

Yes!  Once the learner has completed the course materials, we will email a certificate of completion.

How long will I have access to course materials?

One year from date of payment.

How long do the academic journeys take to complete?

The academic journeys intended for the learners themselves should take anywhere from eight to sixteen weeks, depending upon how you pace them.

The homeschool course (intended mostly for homeschool parents) might realistically take two to six weeks to complete, depending on how long per day you log in. We suggest ten minutes a day for busy parents!

How challenging are the courses?

The questions and assignments tend to not be too difficult, but the coursework itself is reasonably high level.  We teach largely by observing how young children learn: lots of easy questions, with plenty of repetition, vs a few ‘stumpers’ placed at the end of a chapter or section.

What modalities do you offer?

All courses are available in the asynchronous modality.  That means that you take them at your pace.

Certain courses will soon be available in a live-online modality.  There are regular meeting times, and students can sign in and discuss some of the main learning themes with peers and instructors.  The guide (not ‘teacher’, but guide) leads the discussion forward, and then students interact with one another in small groups.

What if I need help?

Once you have your log-in credentials, things should operate quite smoothly from a technical perspective (that’s one of the reasons we chose to work with Pathwright).  If there are log-in issues, please reach out to Pathwright Technical Support

If there are questions about the course material itself, you can address them to your course teacher within the course paths themselves! You can expect to receive a response within 24-hours.
